VAUDE joins Fair Wear Foundation

VAUDE joins Fair Wear Foundation

Working for Fairness and Transparency

The German Mountain Sports Supplier VAUDE officially joined Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) on November 15, 2010. Fair Wear Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization working to improve workplace conditions in the garment and textile industry worldwide. The foundation is a multi-stakeholder initiative supported by various NGOs, trade unions, and business associations in the textile industry.

“Fair Wear Foundation is a credible partner on the path we have been following persistently to ensure fair working conditions and greater transparency,” Antje von Dewitz, VAUDE Managing Director, is pleased to report. “We joined Fair Wear Foundation after intensive preliminary work. Our cooperation with this independent organization shows how seriously we take our social responsibility towards all people connected to the VAUDE family enterprise. This, together with our active commitment to ecological production with an independently certified environmental management system, is an important component of our sustainable corporate policy.”

Through the work of Fair Wear Foundation, the standards for social and sustainable action are assessed and evaluated by an independent third party. Basic organizational requirements at the company headquarters in Tettnang are reviewed, as well as the working conditions in production facilities, located for the most part in Asia. As an affiliate member, VAUDE commits to implement the stringent FWF Code of Labour Practices in its supply chain. Fair Wear Foundation regularly verifies the implementation of these practices through factory audits and worker interviews both onsite and offsite, and by consulting with local organizations such as trade unions, business associations and human rights groups.

"Fair Wear Foundation is pleased to welcome VAUDE as our newest member company. Over the past several months, VAUDE has been working hard to fulfil all the prerequisites for becoming a member. This has included some changes in production facilities. Where changes were appropriate, VAUDE has developed a plan to relocate production in a responsible manner. We look forward to working with VAUDE and other outdoor member companies – a growing segment in FWF’s membership base – and to support them in their ongoing efforts to improve workplace conditions," said Erica van Doorn, Director of Fair Wear Foundation.
