VAUDE’s sustainability is distinguished

Europe’s environmentally-friendly outdoor brand VAUDE has been distinguished with two awards for its sustainability activism at the ISPO International Trade Fair for Sports Equipment and Fashion in Munich. VAUDE won the Eco Responsibility Award 2011 for its tent, Blue One, which was honored with ‘environmentally-friendliest product’ in the Accessories category. In addition, VAUDE won in the Company Ecolution category with “most sustainable company”. With this newly introduced award, the trade show honored the comprehensive and longstanding environmentalism of the family-owned company from Tettnang.

The ISPO has been honoring exemplary sustainable products with its own award for three years running now. Ratings made by a jury of specialists are based on ESPA key criteria covering different aspects of sustainability in areas such as logistics, manufacturing, eco-compatibility, applications, company culture and CSR. A new award was introduced this year, Company Ecolution, in order to recognize not only individual eco products but also the entire range of a company’s sustainability activism. VAUDE is now the first company to be awarded with the “Green” title in this category. This family-owned company from the Lake Constance region in southern Germany has been a leader in sustainability and environmental protection for years, an epitome of mountain sports expertise, innovation and social and environmental responsibility with its products.

“With numerous innovations, convincing concepts and a clear, holistic approach, VAUDE has transformed itself over the past years into a branch leader of sustainability. The brand’s comprehensive strategy offering consumers sustainable products of high quality and performance in all categories has impressed us very much,” praised the jury.

VAUDE’s Blue One tent also impressed the expert panel – the first tent made from bluesign certified materials and manufactured under the strict environmental standard for textiles. The tent material is made of 65% organic cotton and 35% recycling polyester from recycled PET bottles, saving fossil fuels in the manufacturing process and reducing energy use and CO2 emissions by up to 50%.

An interdisciplinary, in-house Sustainability Team is in charge of sustainable organizational development, environmentally friendly products and annual audits by the EMAS environmental standard. All measures are united under the holistic VAUDE Ecosystem. At VAUDE, ecological products are given the Green Shape quality label using carefully selected criteria. The Winter 11/12 Collection shown at the ISPO shown has already met a level of 50% Green Shape products.
